Apple is releasing the new cheaper iPhone 16th this month. Read the specifications here, the differences with the iPhone 16 and the iPhone SE 2022 and the purchase tips to see if it is a smart purchase.

From Friday 28 February, Apple will release a completely renewed ‘budget phone’ for 719 euros that looks a lot like an iPhone 14. Online this iPhone 16th can be ordered a week earlier. The big difference is the fast A-18 processor and its own energy-efficient C1 5G modemchip. It is also interesting that the iPhone 16th has a 4 -hour longer battery life when playing video than the iPhone 16. But there are more differences, both with the iPhone 16 and with the previous budget iPhone.

Differences with iPhone SE 2022
The previous budget model was the iPhone SE 2022 that Apple sold for 529 euros. At the higher price of the iPhone 16th you now get a 6.1inch OLED screen with a camera inking (notch), Face-ID, 128 GB of storage memory, USB-C connection, satellite connection for SOS reports and a Strongly improved camera. With this device you can also use the many possibilities of Apple Intelligence.

Differences with iPhone 16
The iPhone 16th only has a single standard lens (so no separate ultra-wide angle lens) with 48-megapixel sensor and 4K video recordings with Dolby Vision and 60 BPS. Another striking difference with the iPhone 16 is a black camera recess to the edge instead of the floating and with reports of shape-changing Dynamic Island. Furthermore, the maximum brightness of the screen is 200 Nits lower. You also miss the camera control button of the iPhone 16. The action button is present that you can link to various functions, including Visual Search to look up information about what there is to see on your camera image. Compare it with Circle to Search from Google. Another possibility is to add a button for this in the control panel. For example, you can quickly look up via Google where you can buy a certain item or ask chatgpt for help. The A18 chip in the iPhone 16th has 1 GPU-Core less. Very unfortunate is that Magsafe is missing. Instead, you load wirelessly via Qi-2 with 15 watts much slower than with the 25W via Magsafe. Magsafe is also nice because of the magnets that the device holds well, especially in a car that works very well. You also miss Thread to better operate all kinds of devices at home and search for an ultra wide band chip for precision. Another difference is the Wi-Fi 6 version, while the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro are already suitable for Wi-Fi 7. You can only choose between matte black or matt white.

Purchase tips
At Apple the iPhone costs 16 € 250 more. With some searching you can often purchase this device from other providers for much less. With a price difference of less than 100 euros you better purchase an iPhone 16. However, the new iPhone 16th will also be sold somewhat cheaper after a while. With some patience you can often save some extra. As far as I am concerned, the versions with 256GB and 512 GB can no longer mention budget devices with € 849 and € 1,099.
