The Chevrolet Express, along with the Ford E-series, can safely be called the Methusalem among the vans. Basically, the American delivery and passenger bus has been running for 25 years, and it is not yet coming to an end, it now appears. The Express will get a new V8 in the nose next year.
‘Never change a winning team’, that’s how they think about the Express at Chevrolet. The Express was introduced in 1995 and has since then only stood the test of time through facelifts. Basically it is still just the same generation that it started 25 years ago. Of course some things have been modernized over the course of time and there is also something on the roll for next year. The Express is given a new V8 and with that it becomes clear that Chevrolet is not finished with it for the time being.
The current 6.0-liter V8 that serves in the Express, the largest petrol engine on the order list, is just as old as the Express itself. Even though this pretty old block can handle both gasoline and gas, Chevrolet now sees the technology as too outdated. The brand-new 6.6-liter LT8 V8 from GM, already used in the Silverado and GMC Sierra, will find its way to the Express by 2021. With 401 hp, this is exactly 60 hp more powerful than the 6.0, and with 629 Nm it also offers 125 Nm more torque.
In addition to a thick V8, Chevrolet also delivers the Express with a 276 hp 4.3-liter V6 petrol engine and a 181 hp 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel. The latter is, despite its smaller size and lower power, the most expensive engine on the list.
