Citroën budget SUV caught

Citroën comes with a compact crossover that gets a place in the Citroën hierarchy a considerable step below the C3 Aircross. That new little Citroën crossover has now been caught in public for the first time.

Citroën has a new small crossover in the development chambers that is still going through life under code name C21. The C21 will be a compact crossover that will be about 15 centimeters shorter than the currently smallest Citroën crossover: the C3 Aircross. That means that the C21 is just under four meters long, and that is of course for good reason. Citroën is specifically targeting the Indian car market with the C21, where cars shorter than four meters are eligible for tax benefits, among other things. For the same reason, there are a whole range of just under four-meter crossovers on the market in the country, from the Renault Kiger to the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and from the Nissan Magnite to the Tata Nexon.

The Citroën C21 is one of three models that the brand will market in India in the coming years. Citroën has been active in India since 2019 and currently only has the C5 Aircross on the menu. The Citroën C21 visible in these photos, captured during test work in Sweden, will probably be placed on a simpler variant of the well-known modular CMP platform, a basis that we already know from cars such as the Peugeot 208, Opel Corsa, DS 3 Crossback and the new Citroën C4. The car will apparently have a recognizable Citroen nose, complete with thin LED lighting that is placed one floor above the actual headlight units. The car will probably only be delivered with petrol engines, machines with and without turbo.

In Europe, we do not expect a new compact crossover from Citroën on the market.
