It seems that Citroën is preparing a new reincarnation of the famous Méhari. On social media, the brand shares cryptic hints that point to this. The Citroën Oli shown last year serves as the example.

You can leave it to Citroën to come up with particularly lined cars. We now mainly think back to the Citroën Cactus M from 2015, an adventurous open study model based on the C4 Cactus. That was an obvious harbinger of a retro-Méhari and just a few months later that e-Méhari baptized reincarnation also appeared. History repeats itself, it seems. Last autumn Citroën showed the special Oli, an extraordinarily idiosyncratic study model with some nods to the 2CV in it. With a little imagination, some Méhari genes could even be discovered in it. It seems that this is no coincidence.

Citroën now shares two photos (2 and 3) with cryptic descriptions that refer to the primal Méhari. In another photo we even get to see a close-up of the first Méhari. We see a front and rear light that looks almost one-to-one from the Oli. With the photo of the headlight, Citroën indicates that “a mythical model will be released in March”. Another electric retro Méhari? It sure looks like it. “We want to show that we are still, or rather close to, our roots,” explained chief designer Peter Sabas AutoWeek at the unveiling of the Oli.

If it really is, the technical specifications of the Citroën Oli may offer hope for impressive figures for the new Méhari. On paper, the Oli had to be able to travel 400 km with a 40-kWh battery pack. Anyway, that was a study model. Now it’s time to wait and see what Citroen conjures up next month.
