Citroën Type HG is retro-HY’s little brother

One of the nicest retro creations of recent years was the Type H conversion of the Citroën Jumper. The Italian company that carries out that conversion now also has one ready for the Jumpy and the SpaceTourer.

You can leave the drawing of modern interpretations of classic greats from the car world to David Obendorfer. More than three years ago, he was responsible for the design of a retro conversion for the Citroën Jumper. As ‘Type H’, it must of course revive the times of the Citroën HY. With its fully adapted angular nose and ‘wave-plate effect’ all around, it has managed quite well. Body builder Fabrizio Caselani (FC Automobili) received the necessary licenses from Citroën to sell the transformed Jumpers. Now a new comparable conversion is available, again by Obendorfer. The Type HG follows the same principle, but based on the Jumpy and its passenger variant, the SpaceTourer.

The ‘G’ in the name HG refers to it Type G Prototype by Citroën from the 1940s. That was an intended smaller brother of the HY, which ultimately never materialized. In this retro shape, however, that still happens somewhat, because the Jumpy is of course the little brother of the Jumper. The concept with the HG is the same as with the H; you take a Jumpy and equip it from front to rear with modified body panels. Everything has been completely overhauled and you can actually only recognize the Jumpy by the window pillars, the mirrors and the shape of the rear lights. The optional retro steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and white wall tires top it off.

Technically everything remains the same and the interior is just one on one that of the Jumpy. So it is mainly about a nice external change, without compromising on employability. The HG also comes in the same sizes as the Jumpy and the SpaceTourer; XS, M and XL. How much a Jumpy or SpaceTourer converted into HG costs is unfortunately not yet known. FC Automobili has started the preparation of the limited production. Depending on how big the demand is, one will probably determine how many conversions will be performed. You will undoubtedly have to have a little more patience than if you purchase a regular Jumpy or SpaceTourer.
