CJIB has 31,000 regular customers: they receive more than ten traffic fines per year

Every year, more than thirty thousand people in the Netherlands receive more than ten traffic fines. This is evident from figures that BNR obtained from the Central Judicial Collections Office.

The group of people who receive more than ten traffic fines in the Netherlands is no less than 31,000 people. BNR reports this based on figures from the Central Judicial Collection Agency. These 31,000 people would mainly concern less serious traffic violations. The majority of the fines were allegedly issued for speeding violations.

It has not been clear for a long time how large the group of systematic repeat offenders exactly is, as CJIB never wanted to release such figures. Thanks to an appeal to the ‘Open Government Act’ (woo) by BNR, they have surfaced. Victim Support Netherlands advocates a tough approach at BNR. “In the Netherlands you can simply drive fifty times too fast and have to pay fifty times,” Rosa Jansen, chairman of the Board of Directors of Victim Support Netherlands, told BNR. “You have a murder weapon in your hands in a car, which requires associated responsibility.” According to Victim Support Netherlands, the Public Prosecution Service should be more creative in prosecuting repeat offenders. “But if it is not possible within the law, let us change the law very quickly,” says Jansen.
