The electric car is steadily on the rise, and it is not only business drivers who opt for this clean and efficient form of mobility. Because there is more advantage than just a low tax addition. For example, you pay no bpm when purchasing, no motor vehicle tax and the maintenance and energy costs are much lower than those of a car with a combustion engine. What does driving a Renault ZOE cost? We are happy to calculate it for you.
Take Jantine, 39, who drives about 12,000 kilometers a year in her Renault ZOE and has her own Wallbox to plug in her car. “Ideally, I get into a charged and preheated or cooled car every morning. I can set and monitor all of this via the app on my smartphone. I used to be at the pump every other week, now I can charge while I sleep. That alone is fantastic ”, says Jantine.

Only € 3.63 for 100 kilometers!
What energy does Jantine spend every year to drive those 12,000 kilometers? With its average consumption of 16.5 kWh / 100 kilometers, it charges 1,980 kWh of electricity on an annual basis. That comes down to € 435.60 (price per kWh € 0.22). In other words: driving 100 kilometers costs € 3.63. The same distance with an economical petrol car costs € 8.57 (5.6 l / 100 km, liter price € 1.53). If Jantine would hate ZOE at a public charging station, at a rate of € 0.35, she would have lost € 693 per year, or € 5.78 for 100 kilometers. Still very affordable.
Low maintenance costs
But Jantine does not only save on fuel, the costs for the regular maintenance of her Renault ZOE are also much lower. An electric motor hardly requires any maintenance and the brakes hardly wear out because an electric car almost always brakes on the electric motor and also returns the otherwise lost energy to the battery.
No motor vehicle tax
Another cost item that is eliminated for the electric driver is the motor vehicle tax. That would be about € 480 per year for a comparable petrol car, but for the Renault ZOE the rate is zero. On an annual basis, Jantine saves more than € 1,000 compared to a petrol car, which is its € 90 per month advantage. This amount does not include maintenance. Electric driving is therefore not only very relaxed and clean, but you are also much cheaper and that means the knife cuts both ways.
