Closing for previous Dacia DusterDacia DusterDacia DusterDacia DusterDacia DusterDacia DusterRenault Duster facelift

In the Netherlands, the previous generation Dacia Duster has not been for sale new for years. The current model has been in the showrooms here since 2018. Elsewhere in the world, the original Duster of the current Dacia was still being built, but there too the curtain is now falling for the successful model.

We consciously write ‘primordial Duster’ of the ‘current Dacia’. Secretly, the previous Dacia Duster is not the first Duster of the brand at all. In the United Kingdom, the Romanian Aro sold its Spartan all-terrain vehicle ’10’ under the brand name Dacia and already called the model Duster there. That is of course not the car that this article is about. We lift the first Duster from Dacia, operating under the Renault flag, onto the podium once more. After all, he will definitively retire after just under thirteen years.

Although the Duster that you now encounter in Dacia’s showrooms is officially the second generation of the model, Dacia elaborated on the technology of the previous model for the technology of that relatively affordable SUV. The Duster was first shown to the general public in Europe in 2010 in Geneva and lasted until 2018 when it officially handed over the baton to the current second generation Duster. At least in Europe. In other markets, the first Duster – due to the lack of brand history often sold as Renault – was allowed to go for it. For example, the model was still produced in Russia and Brazil, where the car also regularly underwent small visual adjustments that were never seen in Europe. In Brazil and Russia, production of the previous Duster has already stopped in 2020 and 2021 respectively, and now the last production tire on which the car was built has also stopped.

In Europe, the Duster was never delivered with these taillights:

The last copies of the Renault Duster have come off the production line at Renault’s factory in India. In that production facility, Renault also produced the Duster for a few years as a Nissan Terrano, but that model has not been sold for a while. More than 2 million copies of the first and second generation Duster have already been built. The second generation Duster already underwent a facelift last year. A total of more than 12,250 copies of the first and second generation Duster have been sold. Fun fact: secretly, the previous Duster still exists in the form of the Duster Oroch, a pick-up version that is sold in South America, among other places.
