Mercedes-AMG is launching the Mythos label with a brand new study model. This is the Concept Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed, a preview of an exclusive speedster-like variant of the Mercedes-AMG SL.

In 2022 it was announced that Mercedes-Benz has a Maybach version of the SL in the pipeline, but that was not the only SL news that came out at the time via design boss Gordon Wagener. Mercedes-Benz is stepping on the accelerator in the hunt for the largest possible profit margins and is also introducing the Mythos label. It will supply exclusive, modified versions of existing models. With this Concept Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed, the Germans are giving a preview of the first Mythos model. Where else than in Monaco – where the richest of the world like to marinate in the sun – is the world introduced to the Mythos concept for the first time.

The Concept Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed is clearly based on the Mercedes-AMG SL. Just look at the lighting at both the front and the back. Yet the brand new Mythos department has made quite the cut in the SL. The two-seater has to make do without a traditional windscreen and even without an AMG-characteristic Panamericana grille. The part between the headlights is optically sealed with plastic from the front bumper. A new mesh-sealed opening in the lower part of the bumper, together with the openings on either side of it, is responsible for cooling the combustion engine.

Hello Halo.

Also striking is the ‘Halo’, copied from Formula 1 cars, which is placed along the length of the cabin. That doesn’t just lookracey’, but also provides that little bit of extra safety. The elevations behind the front seats – a nod to the 300 SLR – cover the part where you will find a small rear seat in the SL. It gives the forerunner a considerably higher rear deck than that of the SL. The Concept Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed, available in two colours, is also fanatically packed with aerodynamic parts made of carbon fiber. For its design, Mercedes-AMG says it was inspired by the spoiler and wing work of the hypercar Mercedes-AMG One.

Next year, Mercedes-AMG will launch a production version of the Concept PureSpeed. It will go into production in an edition of 250 pieces.
