Consult AirTag serial number and firmware version

Like all Apple products, each AirTag has a unique serial number. This is not very exciting, but in case of problems, Apple can ask for this specific number. In addition, the AirTag also contains software that will undoubtedly be updated regularly.

You can easily find the serial number of the AirTag and the firmware version via the Find My app. You can also consult the unique identification number at other locations. We explain step by step how you can retrieve this data.

Consult AirTag serial number

Apple associates a model and serial number with almost all of their devices. This is intended to identify a specific specimen and consists of a combination of numbers and letters. Apple mostly uses it for support. You can find out exactly which generation you have via the model number.

On the AirTag itself

Press the bottom of the AirTag and twist it open, remove the battery and on the inside of the Tag you can find the model and serial number.

Packaging

You will also find the serial and model number on the packaging of your AirTag, but this can be difficult if you have multiple AirTags in your possession.

Find My App

  • Open the Find My app
  • Navigate to ‘Objects’
  • Select the AirTag from the list
  • Tap the name in the pop-up window
  • You will immediately see the serial number

NFC

Finally, you can also retrieve the unique identification number using NFC. This can be done via any app that can read an NFC chip. Do you use an iPhone? Then open the Find My app â–¸ Objects â–¸ Swipe up â–¸ tap ‘Identify Found Object’ â–¸ scan the AirTag with the back of your iPhone and open the website shown.

  • Open the Find My app
  • Navigate to ‘Objects’
  • Select the AirTag from the list
  • Tap the name in the pop-up window

Next to the serial number you will now see the current AirTag firmware version. The AirTag is automatically updated as soon as a new version is available. This happens in the background when the Tag is connected to your iPhone or iPad.
