Convert file extensions in Files for iPhone or iPad

The Files app for iPhone and iPad lets you store, view, manage, and sync all your files in one place. Since last year, Files has become more productive, so you can quickly and easily convert file extensions in Files for iPhone or iPad.

Do you want to convert a PNG image to JPG? Then you can do this using the Files app. This can be done in two ways: by manually changing the file extension or via quick actions.

Show file extensions

Before you can make any adjustments, you must first enable the file extensions by tapping the display icon at the top of the navigation bar, select ‘Display options’ and enable ‘Show all extensions’.

Convert extension

As soon as you see the extensions in the app, you can start the conversion. Place your finger on the file you want to convert, choose ‘Change name’ and adjust the extension. Then confirm the adjustment in the pop-up window. The format is automatically changed based on the information entered.

Convert file extensions in Files for iPhone or iPad

You can also convert images and some documents immediately via quick tasks. To do this, place your finger on the file, choose ‘Quick tasks’ and then, for example, ‘Convert image’. You can then choose a desired structure and adjust the file immediately.
