Crop photo (Windows 10)

Crop photo (Windows 10)

In Photos, crop a photo for a better composition or to fit the image for a specific print size.

There are two reasons for wanting to crop a photo. There is more in the picture than desired or the photo has to fit on a certain size of paper. For example, a standard print measures 15 by 10 cm. Then choose the ‘3×2’ format in the Photos app and the remaining photo is guaranteed to fit on the print.

Crop a photo in Windows 10’s Photos app like this:

  • Open the Photos app.
  • Click on a photo.
  • Click on the top right Edit and create > To process.
  • click on Crop and rotate.
  • Click on one of the white dots in the corners of the photo and keep the mouse button pressed.
  • Drag the white ball inwards until you have the desired crop. Release the mouse button.
  • If necessary, move the photo relative to the frame so that another part of the photo falls within the frame. Click in the frame and drag the mouse pointer.
  • Optionally, you can set an aspect ratio. That is the ratio between the long and the short side. Right click Aspect Ratio.
  • Select the desired aspect ratio, for example 3×2 (the size of a standard printout).
  • Don’t like the result? click on Reset.
  • You can make further edits or save the photo. Choose Save a copy if you want to keep the original photo. Navigate to the folder where you want to save the photo and click Save.
