Up to 570 kilometers electrically
The electric Cupra Born was only available in the Netherlands with 204 hp and 231 hp powertrains. Cupra now presents a new sporty top version. It is called Cupra Born VZ and with 326 hp it is the strongest Born ever.
Within the Volkswagen family, the Cupra Born is already the alternative to the Volkswagen ID3, marketed as a sportier model. The Born is available with a 204 hp or a 231 hp electric motor on the rear axle. In combination with the smallest package (58 kWh), the 231 hp Cupra Born sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds. Don’t you think that’s fast enough? No problem. There is now an extra sporty version: the Cupra Born VZ.
The Cupra Born VZ is equipped with a 326 hp and 545 Nm strong electric motor. This drives the rear wheels, just like in any other engine version of the hatchback. With the new, stronger electric motor, the Cupra Born VZ charges from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds. Its top speed is 200 km/h, which also means it trumps its milder motorized brothers. All other Borns are set at 160 km/h. Also new: the battery pack. This has a net capacity of 79 kWh. Previously, a 77 kWh unit was the largest. Fast charging is possible, just like with the 77 kWh battery, with up to 170 kW. The range of the Cupra Born VZ is 570 kilometers. 20 kilometers more than the Born with a 231 hp electric motor and 77 kWh battery. You can adjust the degree of recuperation using paddle shifters on the steering wheel.
The Born VZ is more than a Cupra Born with a stronger electric motor. The Cupra Born VZ – of which the VZ part refers to the Spanish word for speed – has a sports suspension, which, according to Cupra, offers more feeling in the brake pedal, but also actually has adapted braking at the rear. More technical adjustments come in the form of new dampers and springs at the rear and the front suspension has also been adjusted differently. The stabilizer bars are new and the steering has also been revised. The Born VZ must, among other things, respond more directly to steering movements. For the Born VZ, Cupra has come up with two new wheel designs in size 20-inch, wheels around which wider rubber is folded.
The Cupra Born VZ has bucket seats as standard, which Cupra also installs in the five-cylinder Formentor, which is not available here. Also interesting: the Cupra Born VZ is the first Born to have the new 12.9-inch infotainment screen. Extensive ambient lighting in the interior is standard, an extensive audio system from Sennheiser is optional.
