Cupra Terramar: Cupra’s little brother of the new Audi Q3

Cupra Terramar: Cupra’s little brother of the new Audi Q3

Cupra has three new models in stock. One of these is the Terramar, a new SUV that, unlike the other two, will not have an electric powertrain. The Terramar will not be on the market until 2024, but Cupra is showing it now.

If you take a look at Cupra’s current delivery range, you will mainly come across models that you will also find in a slightly modified form with other brands. There is one exception, however: the Formentor. That car does not share its bodywork with any other model of the Volkswagen Group. Cupra will release three new models up to and including 2025. One of these is the UrbanRebel, a small electric crossover that will be launched in 2025. In addition, the electric Tavascan and the Terramar came onto the market a year earlier. The Cupra Tavascan will be an electric SUV, while the Terramar will be an SUV that simply gets combustion engines.

The Cupra Terramar is named after the location where Cupra was transformed about five years ago from a sporty Seat label into a more or less independent own brand. The car will be 4.5 meters long and will in any case have a plug-in hybrid powertrain that gives the car an electric range of about 100 kilometers. Definitely not wrong.

The birthplace of the Terramar is striking. It will be built from 2024 at Audi’s factory in Györ, Hungary. There, the Terramar will soon be built side by side with the next generation of the Audi Q3. After all, due to the imminent disappearance of the TT in that factory, a production spot will become available. Cupra already briefly showed the Terramar together with the UrbanRebel and Tavascan in mid-2022 and has now also introduced the SUV to the Hungarian factory employees.

The UrbanRebel, Tavascan and Terramar should, among other things, help Cupra to achieve its sales target that it has set for around 2025. From the middle of this decade, Cupra wants to sell 500,000 cars annually. Cars like the Born and Leon will soon get a facelift. During that facelift, among other things, the front of those models will be brought more in line with that of the upcoming three really new models.
