Daewoo Lanos 1.6 SXi (2000) – Enthusiast Wanted

Do we remember this one? The Daewoo Lanos was a relatively competitively priced hatchback that was available on the European market at the turn of the century. The ‘sporty’ top version was the 1.6 SXi, with 106 hp. In the bright red and with the right wheels, it still looked quite desirable. However? There is – actually – a fresh copy for sale!

Yes, we put ‘sporty’ in quotes above. The Daewoo Lanos 1.6 SXi may look sporty with its fog lights in the painted front bumper and alloy wheels; We were not very pleased with the handling in 2001. It was certainly not allowed to be called a GTI, although it was not all that dramatic. The car leaned a bit in the corners, the gearbox wasn’t too tight and the engine wasn’t super eager – nor very economical. Still, the figures that the Lanos managed to put down were quite acceptable, the car is practically usable in terms of space and it still smells great.

In addition, it has as range topper SXi two air bags, abs and an air conditioner, so you’re still somewhat safe and cool. It may be a great beginner’s car for those who like a little power (106 hp at 1000 kg), but … then you have to be able to find one. Because when was the last time you saw a Lanos SXi?

Well; so there is one for sale in the AutoWeek used car range. One with a color, sporty light metal and a fairly clear history. After less than 100,000 km, the car was put away dry in 2010, probably somewhere in the back of a car company’s building, to be conjured up again earlier this year. As a result, the Daewoo is still bright red and looks as if it is years younger than the car actually is.

Lots of plastic and the shiny poker of the 5-speed gearbox.

New apk

The car company that gives it a second life indicates that all fluids of the Lanos have been replaced and that some rubber work has also been replaced here and there. A new apk will also be added upon purchase. The car once had two different private owners who enjoyed it together for 10 years and almost 100,000 kilometers, but that is actually nowhere to be seen.

The somewhat high asking price (for a Lanos) of €2,750 is therefore quite justifiable – you do buy something unique. Our motto: warm it up during a test drive to check whether there are no leaks (for example due to drying out of certain parts), check whether you are comfortable in it and then buy it as a first car or already if not temporary run about. He looks completely ready for a second life.
