Shareholders have approved the demerger of Daimler Truck from Daimler. This also means a new name for Daimler. The group will be called Mercedes-Benz Group from next year.
At the beginning of this year, Daimler announced that it wants to separate its passenger car and truck divisions more clearly. A split of Daimler was therefore proposed. The shareholders have now agreed to this. That means that the split can now really take place. Things will change in the near future.
Daimler Truck Holding AG is expected to go public as a separate company at the end of this year. In February 2022, the remainder of Daimler AG, which then only includes the passenger and van division, must undergo its name change to Mercedes-Benz Group AG.
Ola Källenius, the current CEO of the combined Daimler, will remain as chairman of the board of directors of the ‘new’ Mercedes-Benz Group. Daimler Truck will be managed by Martin Daum, who is already in charge of the truck division. Källenius emphasizes the importance of the split: “By unlocking the full potential of both companies, we create two undisputed innovation leaders, each setting the pace of transformation in their industry.”
