Some people always have their car spick and span inside and out, others drive around in a dirty car full of pieces of paper or even leftovers. The condition of your car says quite a bit about you as a person. At least, that is the opinion of a significant number of Dutch people, according to research by insurer Allianz Direct.

Research carried out on behalf of Allianz Direct by DirectResearch among 1,179 Dutch people shows that almost four in ten Dutch people think that people with a sloppy car are also sloppy themselves. 37 percent of respondents say they draw that conclusion. Four in ten Dutch people indicate that they would rather not get into someone else’s car if it is messy or dirty. Don’t you feel completely kosher when driving in a dirty car? Then you are not alone. The same research shows that one in five Dutch people is sometimes ashamed of the optical condition of his or her car.

Do you wash your proud four-wheeled possession every week or every other week, and perhaps do this by hand? Then you are in the minority. More than half of respondents (53 percent) say they only put their car through the car wash once every few months. Do you use cleaning products yourself? According to the research, only 45 percent of Dutch people do this once every few months. Nearly two-thirds (64 percent) of respondents indicate that they only take their car to the car wash if it is visibly dirty.

Although Dutch car owners do not wash their cars often, 51 percent of respondents indicate that it is important that their own car is clean. Almost a third of Dutch people (31 percent) even say they enjoy putting their car through the car wash. Please take into account the possible scratches that the brushes can cause in a car wash.
