The new Liquid Glass in iOS 26 looks beautiful, but it does not benefit readability. Do you suffer from it? Try this option!
This way you improve readability in iOS 26
Apple’s operating systems have been given a new look on all devices since 15 September, with the melodious name ‘Liquid Glass. ‘ Although many people like the new software, there are also enough people who have difficulty with the readability in iOS 26 because of the Liquid Glass effect. Fortunately, Apple has added an institution to help you with that. You can find it through the following steps:
- Open the app settings on your iPhone;
- Tap ‘accessibility’;
- Tap ‘display and text size’;
- Switch on the ‘Make less transparent’ option.

More like iOS 18
The ‘Reducing Transparency’ switch improves the contrast in iOS 26 by reducing the transparency of all elements. In essence, the function makes different aspects of the Liquid Glass design ‘Less Liquid’, which improves the readability of text in iOS 26 in many cases. The design of iOS 26 is certainly not completely changed, but the Liquid Glass elements at least look more like you are used to from iOS 18.
The time without a stained glass effect
Do you not find the time on the lock screen clear enough in iOS 26? Then you can switch off the glass effect. Time is therefore less transparent in iOS 26, which improves readability. You do this as follows:
- Press the lock screen for a long time and tap ‘Adjust’;
- Tap the time;
- Downstairs you tap the ‘Effen’ option;
- Close the window with the cross;
- Tap ‘ready’ at the top right.
