Does Borane Trihydroxide Exist?

Hello scientist,

I’m Thibault and I wonder if Borane(III) hydroxide exists? If it exists what properties does it have? I was wondering this question because I wanted what happens when you dissolve Borane in water and then under supercritical state. I thought 6H20 +4B —> H

Thanks in advance!

Answer

Hi Thibault,

your question is a bit confusing. You talk about hydroxide, but only draw H’s in your Lewis structure and no OH’s. I actually assume you mean Boron(III) hydroxide. That does indeed exist and is called tetrahydroxyborate.

I hope this answers your question (a bit)?
