Does the Apple Vision Pro from the US work in the Netherlands?

Apple announced the Apple Vision Pro during WWDC 2023. This is Apple’s first new device since the introduction of the Apple Watch in 2014. The company’s mixed reality headset runs on the new visionOS. This new OS version has been specially developed for the headset and includes modified versions of apps such as FaceTime and Photos.

It has now been almost a year and the advanced VR glasses can now be pre-ordered from Apple. Apple will release the headset in American stores on Friday, February 2. You read that right: Apple only sells the headset in the United States for the time being and it is not yet known when the Vision Pro will also come to other countries.

You can still choose to bring the Apple Vision Pro to the Netherlands. You will then have to take into account additional import costs and you will also have to pay a lot of VAT. But that’s not the only thing you’ll have to deal with. We have listed a few additional things for you.

  • Apple Vision Pro only has support for the English language (including Siri);
  • To use the Apple Store you need an American Apple ID;
  • Purchases in Apple Music and Apple TV are only possible with an American Apple ID;
  • Glasses wearers cannot request special lenses. Zeiss only accepts requests from American eye professionals and will only send them within America;
  • Some apps may be unavailable due to local restrictions or certain licensing agreements;
  • Apple Support is only available in America.

That is quite a list that you have to take into account if you want to bring an Apple Vision Pro to the Netherlands. The VR glasses are already pricey enough (3500 dollars) and if you are also missing quite a number of functions…

Perhaps it is better to wait until the Apple Vision Pro officially comes to the Netherlands. According to usually reliable Apple expert Mark Gurman, after America it is the turn of countries such as Canada, China and the United Kingdom. The headset will then come to Europe. The Apple Vision Pro will first come to major countries such as France and Germany, and only then will it be the turn of the Netherlands and Belgium.
