You can operate a smartwatch in several ways. Samsung gave its Galaxy Watch 4 Classic four options for operation last year: Bixby voice, physical buttons, hand movements and the rotating ring. You can use the rotating ring on this watch to turn on the screen, and to easily scroll through your apps, messages and health data. The rotating ring gives a slight vibration when you turn it, and it also looks tough.
Now the question is whether Samsung has also given the new Galaxy Watch 5 such a rotating ring. The Galaxy Watch 4 already had to do without a rotating ring and that also applies to the Galaxy Watch 5. The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro also does not have a physical rotating ring this time. A physical rotating ring indeed, because Samsung will come up with an alternative for both smartwatches this year. The rotating ring around the screen makes way for a virtual rotating ring.
A virtual rotating ring is located on the screen edge of the Galaxy Watch 5 (Pro) and simulates the physical rotating ring. So you swipe your finger over the edge of the screen to scroll through the menus. You also feel a small vibration during operation, but it still feels different from a physical rotating crown around the screen.
So there is no physical rotating ring on the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, but there is a virtual rotating ring with which you can control the smartwatches.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro were unveiled in August.
