Mid this year Donkervoort presented the D8 GTO-JD70 to the world, a limited version of the D8 GTO that was developed in honor of the 70th birthday of Donkervoort founder Joop Donkervoort. Donkervoort proves that things can always be more intense with this D8 GTO-JD70 R!
- Special track version of D8 GTO-JD70
- Faster and safer
- Power: 415 hp and 520 Nm
- Weight: 725 kilos
- Starting price: about 2 tons excluding taxes
The D8 GTO-JD70 R shares its mighty Audi-derived 2.5 TFSI petrol engine with the D8 GTO-JD70 launched earlier this year, which means that the five-cylinder in this new variant also delivers 415 hp and 520 Nm. Still, this new R variant of the D8 GTO-JD70 is, according to its creators, the fastest and safest car the company has ever made. There is a serious adder hiding under the grass. Unlike the R-less variant, the D8 GTO-JD70 R is not street legal.
Modifications
Donkervoort gives the D8 GTO-JD70 R ABS specially tuned for track use from Bosch, which is adjustable in twelve positions. Donkervoort is also bringing a fire extinguishing system, racing seats with six-point seat belts to the rip nose. The company is also adjusting the fire safety of the petrol tank. Donkervoort makes this new petrol tank available for every D8 GTO. More adjustments? Hell yes. Donkervoort also adjusts the brakes, steering, transmission of the D8 GTO-JD70. For example, the brakes have special brake pads and you can adjust the brake balance using a button on the dashboard. The front discs have a diameter of 31 centimeters, the rear discs are 28.5 centimeters with six-piston claws that are optional for the regular JD70. The new fierce Donkervoort stands on specially developed slicks, which measure 235/45 17 at the front and are a size larger at the rear with 245/40 18. The rubber is optionally folded around special carbon fiber wheels that go hand in hand with a set of tire warmers. Striking is the presence of adjustable power steering for the more directly adjusted steering gear. You can even go for a version with an extra short steering gear ratio. Donkervoort gives the D8 GTO-JD70 R springs and dampers that are 20 percent stiffer than the ones under the R-less JD70. In addition, the stabilizer bars are stiffer and the ultimate party celebration is 2 centimeters closer to the asphalt.
Pitbox
The fact that the Donkervoort D8 GTO-JD70 R is a real track animal is evident from the fact that the hard-hitting Dutch cigar is able to send data to the pit box while driving. Donkervoort says it supports the D8 GTO-JD70 R owners with everything that has to do with racing. We are not only talking about transport to and from the circuit, but also about catering, supplying tires and coaching the driver. Shifting is done with a sequential transmission that allows you to upshift at full throttle. The box gives intermediate gas when downshifting. Among other things, a roll cage and the use of extra carbon fiber should make the D8 GTO JD-70 R a bit safer and stiffer than the original.
Koenigsegg
According to Donkervoort, the D8 GTO-JD70 R is no less than five seconds faster than the regular JD70 at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. In addition, the D8 GTO-JD70 R on the same track would be 3 seconds faster than the mighty Koenigsegg Regera, a hypercar weighing more than 1,100 kilos. We do, however, add the caveat that the Swedish titan lays about 1,600 kilos in the bowl. The extremist manages to complete a sprint to a speed of 100 km / h in 2.7 seconds.
The starting price for all this beauty? Donkervoort asks at least € 198,000 for the D8 GTO-JD70 R. Yes, that is exclusive of taxes.
