DS 3: without Crossback but with new electric powertrain

The DS 3 Crossback gets a facelift. Like its big brother DS 7, it recently lost the Crossback part of its name and is now simply called DS 3. An electric variant is also available again, although the DS 3 E-Tense does have a new powertrain.

In 2019, the DS that had been separated from Citroën several years earlier, came with a successor to the DS3. The hatchback coach was exchanged for that of a compact crossover and therefore DS put the addition ‘Crossback’ after the model name. Because there simply no longer exists DS 3 that is not a ‘Crossback’, DS does not seem to find the addition so necessary in retrospect. Earlier we saw that the DS 7 Crossback lost the Crossback part of its name during its recent refresh and now the DS 3 Crossback is undergoing a similar treatment.

The crossover, now simply called DS 3, gets a revised front with newly classified LED headlights. The extensions of the black frame around the new grille no longer run under the headlights. Like its big brother DS 7, the DS 3 has new LED daytime running lights in the form of two vertical and uninterrupted LED lines on the corners of the bumper. Depending on the trim level, the grille is completed with glossy black or diamond-shaped and chrome accents.

At the rear, the changes are less drastic. DS mentions ‘sharper lines’, although you have to look very carefully for that. The brand name DS Automobiles is now written on the stainless steel decorative strip that connects the rear lights. DS also brings new 17 and 18-inch wheels and two new mother-of-pearl paints to the DS 3. The roof is available in Perla Nera Black and Carat Gray. In the interior of the DS 3, the French screw a new steering wheel and from now on there is a standard 10.3-inch large, new infotainment screen on top of the dashboard.

Electric DS 3 E-Tense

As before, there is also an electric variant. That electric version gets the E-Tense addition again and is therefore called DS 3 E-Tense. Interesting: this one gets a new powertrain. The DS 3 Crossback E-Tense had a 50 kWh battery and a 136 hp and 260 Nm electric motor. The new DS 3 E-Tense has a 54 kWh battery and a 156 hp and 260 Nm electric motor. The electric range is up to 402 kilometers. Previously you had to settle for 341 kilometers. The battery pack can now be fully charged with up to 100 kW and can be filled with fresh power from 0 to 80 percent of its capacity in 25 minutes. The battery pack is located under the seats and under the center tunnel. You can bet that this electric powertrain will soon also be available in the electric versions of cars such as the Peugeot 2008, 208, Opel Corsa and Mokka.

The DS 3 will also be available in the Netherlands with petrol engines. There will be a 100 hp 1.2 PureTech with a six-speed manual transmission and a PureTech 130 petrol engine linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The prices of the renewed DS 3 will follow in October, you can only order from mid-January.
