Ducati and VW collaboration for engine assembly in Argentina

Ducati has entered into a partnership with the Volkswagen Group Argentina for the CKD assembly of Ducati motorcycles for the local Argentine market. Production will start at the Córdoba Industrial Center by the end of 2022, making the VW plant the third factory outside Italy for Ducati.

Commercial cooperation between Ducati and Volkwagen Group Argentina started in 2013, after the Italian brand from Borgo Panigale was acquired by Audi AG from Mercedes AMG in 2012.

Since then, Ducati has managed to achieve good results in the South American country. Ducati currently has seven exclusive dealers in Argentina, where the complete range of Ducati and Scrambler motorcycles is available.

“The Argentina motorcycle market is very interesting, Ducati has a strong positioning in this country in which we have been able to achieve excellent results over the years, both in terms of volumes and market share,” said Francesco Milicia, Ducati VP Global Sales and Aftersales.

“In Argentina, we can count on a great partnership with the Volkswagen Group that distributes our bicycles, and it is also thanks to this strong relationship that we can take this important step that will help further strengthen our position in this market.”

“Argentina is an important pillar for Volkswagen Latin America. With this new investment, we will continue to strengthen our brand in the region, with models increasingly adapted to the needs of our customers,” said Pablo Di Si, Executive Chairman of Volkswagen . Latin America.

“It is a great pleasure to start assembling Ducati motorcycles in Córdoba, as Volkswagen Group Argentina will be the first VW Group subsidiary in the world to do so.”

The Ducati and Scrambler models will be assembled in the Córdoba Industrial Center according to the so-called CKD production process. CKD production, which stands for Complete Knock Down, is mainly used in countries with a high import duty. At CDK, all parts are manufactured, crated and shipped to the destination country, where they are assembled in a local assembly plant.

The first model to be assembled at the Córdoba Industrial Center is the Scrambler Icon. The Scrambler family is, according to the Italians, the most valued in the Argentine market, after the first local presentation in 2016.
