Ducati DesertX Discovery: ready for the big adventure

To underline that you could really go around the world with it, if you wanted to, Ducati has launched a Discovery version of DesertX. According to the Italians, DesertX Discovery is ready to experience ‘unforgettable adventures on and off the road’, thanks to the ‘full optional’ equipment that makes it ready for those adventures.

Ducati DesertX Discovery: ready for the big adventure

In principle it is just a DesertX, but in a different color scheme and equipped with a number of accessories that you could also order yourself, but we especially don’t want to withhold the marketing slogans that Ducati has come up with to promote DesertX Discovery.

According to Ducati, the new DesertX Discovery allows you to “enjoy traveling like never before”, thanks to “parts designed to increase the comfort and protection of motorcycle and rider, and which will certainly not go unnoticed with the rugged new Thrilling Black/Ducati Red color scheme.”

The DesertX Discovery is made “not to stop on any terrain” and, according to Ducati, is therefore equipped as standard with reinforced handguards and crash bars with protection for the water pump, a radiator grille and a reinforced crankcase skid plate to protect the engine on the most difficult sections. You don’t get the suitcase set for free, you have to pay another € 1,254.56 for that.

The heated grips and the larger windshield should increase comfort at low temperatures, while the center stand makes the bike more stable, making luggage easier to access during stops and maintenance work on the chain and rear wheel.

Another great quote: “The DesertX is the ideal travel companion, even on the road, thanks to an agile and precise chassis that allows for easy and intuitive riding. That’s why the Turn-by-Turn navigator, which can be used via the Ducati Link App, clearly guides the rider to his destination by displaying the directions directly on the dashboard.”

In order to actually be able to go around the world with it, Ducati claims to have homologated no less than 3 types of tires, varying from completely on the asphalt to largely off-road, but that is only interesting for the countries where this is actually enforced. With us, nobody looks at that and tires are mounted according to their own choice.

Or in the case of the 21″/18″ wheel sizes from DesertX: which ones are available, because due to the shortage of raw materials, tires in these sizes are currently a thing: manufacturers currently prefer popular (most sold) tire types and tire sizes over the smaller series. And in the case of “Allroad” tires, the 19″/17″ combination over the 21″/18″ combination, because there are simply many more motorcycles with 19″/17″ than 21″/18″.

The heart of the DesertX is the liquid-cooled 937 cc Testastretta 11° desmodromic V-twin, which produces a top power of 110 hp at 9,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 92 Nm at 6,500 rpm. In terms of electronic gadgets, three driving modes are dedicated to on-road use, while two are specifically designed for off-road driving.

The DesertX Discovery has a surcharge of €3,400 compared to the standard version, which will only remain available in the matte Star White Silk colour scheme for model year 2025, with a price tag starting at €19,690. Both versions are also available in a 35 kW version for holders of an A2 driving licence, with the top power reduced to the maximum permitted 95 hp (70 kW).
