Ducati recalls Hyperstrada 939 and Hypermotard 939 due to oil leak

Ducati has issued a recall for the 2016-2018 Hypermotard 939, Hypermotard 939 SP and Hyperstrada 939. The oil cooler pipes may rub against each other, causing damage and leakage, possibly resulting in oil on the rear tire.

October 2021 Ducati received a report of an oil leak from the oil cooler hoses, and subsequently launched an investigation. During that investigation, it became clear to Ducati that there were a total of 19 cases worldwide, of which 8 were in the US alone. The dates of the claims ran from May 2017 to March 2022.

While the oil spill could have had serious consequences, none of the 19 claims resulted in an accident, let alone death or injury.

The investigation taught Ducati that with intensive use over time at a considerable mileage, the oil pipes showed wear because they rub against each other, eventually resulting in a leaking pipe.

To fix the problem, Ducati has now developed a spacer that must be clamped between the pipes, which prevents the pipes from rubbing against each other. The recall concerns the 2016-2018 Hyperstrada 939, Hypermotard 939 and Hypermotard 939 SP.
