The Eberraute (Artemisia Abrotanum) belongs to the family of the Korbblütler and is originally native to the Mediterranean. The species of cola and lemon herb includes the genus Eberraute. The plant is known for a bitter-bitter taste and strong flavors. With a little imagination, it actually reminds of cola in smell and taste, according to the plant magazine Naturadb.

Even the Greeks knew and appreciated the medicinal plant, which exudes a strong and pleasant smell due to the essential oils it contains. In the Middle Ages, the shrub was so popular that it was also grown as a healing and spice herb in monasteries in Central Europe.

In the Middle Ages, the Eberraute was attributed to an aphrodisiac and invigorating effect, and used it against a variety of diseases and to strengthen workers and farmers. Eberschte is mentioned in the works of Hippocrates, Plinius and Hildegard von Bingen.

Eberrauten tea can help you against colds in the cold season and strengthen your immune system. According to an article in the magazine for phytotherapy, the exact effects of the Ebernaute on the human body have not yet been sufficiently researched. However, there are test results that occupy some positive properties of the plant.

As the magazine reports, ice hockey players were administered as a tea in an open study and examined the effect on the immune system. The number of defense cells in the blood increased significantly, which suggests strengthening the immune system through the Ebernaute. A doctoral thesis at the University of Cologne also shows that Ebernauts has an antioxidant and positive effect on the immune system.

In addition, studies allow conclusions to be drawn about further health benefits of the Ebernaute. Accordingly, the plant can:

  • an antibacterial effect
  • Symptoms of allergic reactions reduce
  • Ward off insects
  • Potential against parasites (previously only researched in animals)
  • Help against malaria
  • Current the growth of certain cancer cells under laboratory conditions

In folk medicine, Ebernaute is also known as a remedy for sleep disorders or menstrual complaints. Since Ebernraute contains essential oils and bitter substances, the medicinal herb should also have an antispasmodic and calming effect in the event of indigestion. However, none of these effects is scientifically proven. For the Ebernraut, there is still a lot of research to uncover all of its actual effects, this is the conclusion of the magazine for phytotherapy.

Since the Eberraute as a medicinal herb has been forgotten nowadays, you can only find them in some pharmacies and drugstores or online. However, you can also grow the cola herb yourself and, in addition to the medical effect, also use as a spice in the kitchen.

One of the proven properties of the Ebernaute is that it can strengthen the immune system. Ebernaute is therefore natural protection against infections and colds in the cold season. You can either fall back on the tea during the first signs of illness or take it as a cure as a cure.

To prepare the herbal tea, you pour a teaspoon of the dried shoots and leaf tips with hot but no longer boiling water. The time time is between three to five minutes. If you pour the tea with fresh Eberschte, let it pull it five to ten minutes. To sustainably strengthen your defenses, you should drink the tea for two to three times a day for at least eight weeks.

According to the journal for phytotherapy, however, caution is particularly important when dosing the tea: because Eberraute contains Thujon, a fabric that can be harmful to health when increased. The daily acceptable thujonous amount should therefore not exceed three to seven milligrams per day. For your tea consumption, this means that it is best to use Eberschen varieties without a thujon, otherwise the recording amount is difficult to control.
