Easily edit photos on an iPhone or iPad with the Photos app. This makes favorite photos even more beautiful.
Editing picture’s
All photos taken with an iPhone or iPad are stored on the device in the Photos app. The visual material can be organized and managed in this app. But there is more. The Photos app also has extensive editing capabilities. In this article, we’ll discuss these options for photos on an iPhone with iOS 13 or later and iPad with iPadOS 13 or later.
Tabs
The Photos app consists of four tabs. The most important for this article are the “Library” (from iOS 14/iPadOS 14) or “Photos” (iOS 13/iPadOS 13) and “Albums” tabs. The tab ‘Library”https://www.seniorweb.nl/”Photos” contains all photos from the iPhone or iPad. On the ‘Albums’ tab, photos are organized into folders. For example, in standard folders, such as ‘Recent’ with all photos from the recent past. But users can also create their own folders, for example for a holiday.
Open photo
The tabs ‘Library’ https://www.seniorweb.nl/’Photos’ and ‘Albums’ contain thumbnails of photos. Open a photo to view it properly and edit it if necessary. The photo will then take up the entire screen.
- Tap the tab Library/Photos or Albums.
- Tap groups of photos until a single photo remains.
At the bottom are thumbnails of other photos.
Automatically improve
Quickly and easily enhance a photo without having to turn the knobs extensively. This can be done via the auto-enhance feature. Photos app makes the photo as beautiful as possible.
- Open a photo so that it takes up the entire screen.
- At the top right, tap Change.
- Tap the icon with a magic wand

- The app adjusts the photo. Tap the photo to view the original.
- Tap on Ready to save the changes. Don’t want to make the edit? Then tap cancel > Delete changes.
rotate photo
Is a photo upside down or she? Then rotate the photo to view it properly.
- Open a photo and tap Change.
- Tap the ‘Crop’ icon

- Tap the white square icon with arrow

- The photo rotates. Tap a few more times if necessary to get the correct image.
- Tap on Ready to save the changes. Don’t want to make the edit? Then tap cancel > Delete changes.
Straighten Horizon
Is the horizon not straight in a photo? No problem. Straighten it as follows:
- Open a photo and tap Change.
- Tap the ‘Crop’ icon

- The photo automatically rotates so that the horizon is straight.
- Below or next to the photo is a dashed line. Would you like to adjust the photo yourself? Then tap the line and swipe the screen a bit. The photo will be gridded and rotated. Use the grid lines to straighten the horizon.
- Tap on Ready to save the changes. Don’t want to make the edit? Then tap cancel > Delete changes.
crop
Cropping a photo is useful if you only want to use part of the photo.
- Open a photo and tap Change.
- Tap the ‘Crop’ icon

- Tap the multi-frame icon

- Tap on one of the fixed proportions.
- Tap a white corner or line around the photo and swipe in to resize the photo.
- Place a finger on the photo and drag the contents of the photo until you are satisfied with the composition.
- Tap on Ready to save the changes. Don’t want to make the edit? Then tap cancel > Delete changes.
Add filter
Photos app offers a number of filters to beautify photos. Such a filter puts a kind of color layer over the photo. Add it like this:
- Open a photo and tap Change.
- Tap the icon with three overlapping circles

- A row of different filters appears. Tap a filter.
- The processing starts immediately. The overview of the filters also has a dashed line. This allows you to adjust the strength of the filter. Feel free to try out different filters.
- Tap on Ready to save the changes. Don’t want to make the edit? Then tap cancel > Delete changes.
To adjust
Under the ‘Adjust’ category there are many editing options to adjust the photo. There are exposure options, such as Exposure, Brightness, Light, Dark and Contrast. The color can be adjusted with Saturation, Vibrance and Warmth. The Sharpness and Definition options provide sharper edges and a clear photo. Noise reduction reduces graininess or removes blemishes. And finally, Vignette creates a dark border around a photo.
Using these options works almost the same:
- Open a photo and tap Change.
- Tap the icon of a circle with dots around it

- Swipe the icons below the photo until the option you want is selected, for example “Vignette”.
- A dashed line appears below the option. Swipe the line to adjust the photo.
- Try one of the other options? First, tap the icon with the three horizontal stripes again.
- Tap on Ready to save the changes. Don’t want to make the edit? Then tap cancel > Delete changes.
Undo edits
Feel free to try options while editing photos. Because it is always possible to return to the original photo. All photo edits will then be undone.
- Open the edited photo.
- At the top right, tap Change.
- Each edited photo has a ‘Recover’ button. Tap on recovery.
- Tap on Back to original.
All edits are permanently deleted.
