Electric Cadillac Escalade IQ spotted

If there were an imaginary axis in the automotive world with electric cars on one side, we’d probably find the Cadillac Escalade all the way on the other side. However, that is about to change, because Cadillac is working on a fully electric version of its iconic top SUV. We see that car here.

The Cadillac Escalade did not invent its modest segment – that honor goes to the Lincoln Navigator – but has been a household name in the American automotive landscape since its introduction at the turn of the century. Since 2020 we have known the fifth generation of the model, which, like all its predecessors, is based on the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban (respectively ‘short’ and long) and the GMC Yukon.

The Cadillac Escalade IQ, as the electric Escalade is officially called, was recently announced. In the future, this car will undoubtedly also get sister models from Chevrolet and GMC, but for now Cadillac is pulling the electric cart in this segment. The Escalade IQ is not just an electric version of the existing Escalade, but a separate model in addition to the regular Escalade. That fits in well with the policy of parent company GM, which also has an obvious electric Silverado in addition to the regular Silverado. The electric Cadillac Escalade will be on the same Ultium platform that the GMC Hummer EV also uses. That almost automatically means that the performance will be impressive. The Silverado, for example, is available with 673 hp and 1057 Nm, the Hummer even delivers more than 1,000 hp. The power needed to keep the luxury SUV moving will soon come from battery packs with capacities of up to 200 kWh.

These spy images already show which way things are going with the Escalade IQ. We see a still gigantic SUV, but with a somewhat lower and slightly sloping roofline towards the rear. Perhaps that can contribute to a slightly less high energy consumption, but it also looks quite chic. If Cadillac will soon supply a shorter and a longer version, just like with the regular Escalade, we will undoubtedly be dealing with the latter. The large overhang at the rear indicates this.

The ‘IQ’ in the name, of course, has nothing to do with the city Toyota of the same name, but everything with the names of other electric Cadillacs. After all, they are called Celestiq and Lyriq, and Cadillac continues that theme here in a less creative way. In a few days we will know what the Cadillac Escalade really looks like, because on August 9, Cadillac pulls the curtain. Quite a job, in this case.
