Ford Explorer EV

The brand new electric Ford Explorer, which has so far been developed purely for Europe, has been added to the Dutch price lists. Various engine versions of the Ford Explorer are eligible for SEPP purchase subsidy, including a variant that has an electric range of over 600 kilometers to its name.

Ford’s large plug-in hybrid SUV called Explorer is making way for a completely different model with the same name in Europe. The electric Ford Explorer is a brand new and fully electric SUV, a car for which Ford has been able to pull the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform off the shelves. With its length of 4.46 meters, the electric Ford Explorer is of course a competitor for the car to which it is technically related: the Volkswagen ID4, despite the fact that it is about 10 centimeters shorter. Within the Ford ranks, the Explorer is therefore one step below the considerably larger (4.74 meters) and more expensive Mustang Mach-e. The Ford Explorer is available from €41,450.

The starting price of €41,450 applies to the Ford Explorer Standard Range RWD in the basic trim, simply called Explorer. In that case, for a generous 41 grand you get a Ford Explorer with a 170 hp electric motor on the rear axle and a 52 kWh battery. This combination helps the Explorer Standard Range RWD have a range of 384 kilometers. The Ford Explorer with the longest range is the Extended Range RWD. It has a 286 hp powerful electric motor at the rear and a larger battery pack. It has a capacity of 77 kWh and is large enough for a range of a remarkably generous 602 kilometers. This variant is available from €45,950, with a tax value of €44,800. This means that you are also eligible for a SEPP purchase subsidy with that variant. Do you prefer four-wheel drive? No problem. After all, the Ford Explorer is also available as an Extended Range AWD. It has two electric motors with a combined 340 hp and a battery pack that, at 79 kWh, is another 2 kWh larger than that of the Extended Range with rear-wheel drive. Its range: 566 kilometers. All mentioned engine versions are also available in combination with a more luxuriously equipped Premium version.

The electric Ford Explorer is one size smaller than the Mustang Mach-e.

(Charging) Speeds

The Ford Explorer Standard Range RWD can fast charge with up to 115 kW. The Explorer Extended Range RWD can charge up to 135 kW at the fast charger, while the Extended Range AWD can charge the fastest at 185 kW. Speaking of speeds: with the exception of the Standard Range RWD, which reaches a top speed of 160 km/h, every Explorer has a top speed of 180 km/h. It is not yet known how quickly the Standard Range RWD reaches 100 km/h from a standstill. We do know that the Explorer Extended Range RWD catapults to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds and that the four-wheel drive variant only needs 5.3 seconds to reach 100 km/h. The luggage space is 445 to 450 liters depending on the selected version. The vehicle weight varies from 1,908 kilos for the lightest version (Standard Range RWD) to 2,179 for the heaviest variant (Extended Range AWD in Premium trim).
