Electric Ioniq 5 in pictures

The Netherlands may be two next year, but at least one new Korean car brand richer: Ioniq. Under that flag, Hyundai will carry fully electric models. Ioniq’s firstborn will be the 5, an electric hatchback now in the spotlight in production costume.

Hyundai’s luxury brand Genesis may make the crossing to Europe next year, but the new electric sub-brand Ioniq is certain that it will be introduced in Europe next year. Hyundai announced in August that it will be sticking the Ioniq model name on an EV brand that will span three models. The 7 will be a large electric SUV of which little is known. The 6 will be the promising production version of the Hyundai Prophecy Concept, but first Ioniq fires the smaller 5 on the European car market.

The Ioniq 5 is the production version of the idiosyncratic Hyundai 45 Concept that made its debut at the IAA in Frankfurt in 2019. The model has already appeared in camouflage suit, although the electric newcomer was never seen as clearly as today. Although the 5 is still firmly in the patches, for the first time parts of the final headlights and rear lights are clearly visible. The pixel-like viewers of the 45 Concept are replaced by LED headlights that still refer to the examples on the Hyundai study model with their square signature. The rear lights of the Ioniq 5 are connected by a horizontal LED strip and deviate more than the headlights from the lighting on the 45 Concept.

The 5 will be on a completely new electric modular platform that Hyundai has dubbed E-GMP. It must, among other things, house a 600 hp EV, although the Ioniq will be 5 much milder motorized. Price-wise, the Ioniq 5 is probably positioned a step above the Kona Electric. More early next year!
