Mazda comes with a fully electric CX-30 and that causes the necessary confusion. The newcomer listens to the name CX-30 EV and has interesting specifications on paper.

Earlier this year, Mazda showed the CX-30 EV in China. Mazda did not release any information about the technology of the car and that caused the necessary confusion. Mazda does not supply an electric CX-30 in Europe, although it does have an electric car based on the CX-30 on the menu with the MX-30. We now have more data on the CX-30 EV and that creates a little more clarity.

The CX-30 EV is a model to be built and sold by Changan Mazda in China. The CX-30 EV is 4.41 meters long and has a wheelbase of 2.67 meters. Both the CX-30 and the MX-30 not available in China have 2.66 meters between the front and rear axles and are roughly 4.4 meters long. This also makes the CX-30 EV seem simply based on the CX-30, although the visible thick bottom of the car due to the placement of the battery pack provides somewhat strange proportions. The interior is one-to-one from the CX-30, although the electric CX-30 EV gets a digital instrumentation.

In terms of technology, however, the CX-30 is nothing like the MX-30. The electric version of the MX-30, also available in Japan as a mild hybrid, has a 143 hp electric motor and a 35.5 kWh battery pack. However, the MX-30 EV has a 218 hp and 300 Nm electric motor and a much larger 61.1 kWh measuring battery. With a DC charger you can fill an empty package with power up to 80 percent of its capacity in 55 minutes. Changan Mazda speaks of a range of 450 kilometers according to the Chinese CLTC cycle, while the MX-30 according to the WLTP method, which is slightly more accurate, comes 200 kilometers.

The CX-30 EV is not coming to Europe. In China, the Mazda CX-30 EV has a starting price of €21,180. The most luxurious version changes owner from €27,750.
