The new Peugeot 308 was immediately presented with plug-in hybrid powertrains, but there was still no trace of an EV version. An electric Peugeot e-308 is in the pipeline, but it is still a long time coming. The electric e-308 will be launched in 2023.
Peugeot has never confirmed or invalidated the arrival of an electric version of the new 308. Until now. It AD reports, based on an interview with Jerôme Micheron, Product Director at Peugeot, that a fully electric 308 will be available in 2023. That version will be called e-308 according to Peugeot’s current naming strategy.
Peugeot 308
The new Peugeot 308, like the new DS 4 and the new Opel Astra to be launched later this year, is based on a further development of the EMP2 platform. We already know this EMP2 platform from many other Stellantis products, but more than half of the new generation C-segmenters has been revised. DS Automobiles already stated to Techzle that the renewed EMP2 base is also suitable for a fully electric DS 4 variant, but that that version was not yet planned. Peugeot’s Micheron dares to make stronger statements about the new Peugeot 308.
“The e-versions make the 208 and 2008 among the best-selling models in their class. One in ten sold is already fully electric and that number will increase. want to have and an EV more and more fits in their wish list, “the product boss tells the AD.
It is still too early for technical specifications of the electric e-308. After all, we still have to wait a few more years for the arrival of the car. With the electric e-208, e-2008 and with cars such as the DS3 Crossback E-Tense and Citroën ë-C4, Stellantis now has enough EV experience in its pocket. 2023 is also the year in which Stellantis introduces the eVMP platform. That eVMP platform is a modular and fully EV-focused platform that will be part of a large number of Stellantis C and D electric segmenters. That platform is good for battery packs with a capacity of 60 kWh to 100 kWh. Whether Peugeot makes a derivative of the upcoming e-308 from the regular 308 or whether Peugeot is following a similar path as Renault with the Mégane and Mégane ‘eVision’ remains to be seen. Renault comes with an electric model in the Mégane family with a completely own EV platform that will be sold alongside the regular Mégane. We will see.
