Electric Porsche Macan arrives later than planned

Porsche would launch an electric Macan next year, its second purely electric model after the Taycan. However, the Germans will not succeed, according to documents that Porsche shared around the announcement of its IPO. The British coach that news surfaced from a whopping 820-page information memorandum, which AutoWeek has now also seen. It states that the electric Porsche Macan has been postponed to the beginning of 2024 for the time being. We also read that even that moment can still be in danger.

Porsche states that delays at Cariad are largely the cause of this. “The group (Volkswagen Group, ed.) is largely dependent on Cariad in preparing the E3 1.2 platform (PPE, ed.). Partly due to delays at Cariad and in the development of the E3 1.2 platform by the group, the group has already had to postpone the production start of the Macan BEV.” We read further on that a lot also depends on developments at third parties and that the Volkswagen Group ‘may have limited possibilities to deal with development problems or delays with third parties’. It is therefore still a bit of a stretch when it comes to the start of production of the electric Porsche Macan at the beginning of 2024. Other cars can also be the victims, it is said. We are thinking, for example, of the Audi Q6 e-tron, which was also developed on a PPE basis. Essentially the Audi cousin of the electric Porsche Macan.

The delays at Cariad have been a thorn in the side of the Volkswagen Group for some time. It has reportedly even cost former Volkswagen Group CEO Herbert Diess his job. Now it becomes painfully clear how big the problems are, because the postponement of the electric Porsche Macan will undoubtedly cost the brand the necessary income. After all, with the Taycan, Porsche is already doing well and there is a good chance that an electric Macan will become even more successful.
