Rarely has a study model been so well received as the Renault 5 Prototype. It was already known that the concept car actually leads to a production model. Now we also know that the electric reborn Renault 5 will hit the market in 2024.
Renault surprised friend and foe with the 5 Prototype in early 2021. Although there were already rumors about the arrival of a ‘returned Renault 5’, no one expected Renault to give the 5 Prototype such a recognizable retro body. The electric Renault 5 Prototype is going into production, although you have to wait for it. 2024 is the year in which the electric Renault 5 comes on the market.
The production version of the Renault 5 Prototype will resemble its conceptual precursor like two drops of water. That is good news, that 5 Prototype managed to get their hands on almost everyone. The concept car was laced with references to the 5’s of yesteryear. We mention the tailgate in the hood that is reminiscent of an air intake, the angular headlights, the vertical taillights and the sloping buttocks. Technical specifications of the eventual new Renault 5 are not yet available, although that new electric retro car will probably be on the CMF-B-EV platform. On to 2024!
Electric Renaults
Renault has a good grasp of the EV flavor. The brand wants about 90 percent of its sales mix to consist of electric models by 2030. At the IAA in Munich, the brand presented a new electric member of the Mégane family with the Mégane E-Tech Electric, a car that will be launched next year. It doesn’t stop there. For example, the brand not only has the electric Renault 5 in the barrel, but it also comes with the ‘4ever’. Renault also comes with an order version of the electric 4ever, a new Fourgonnette! According to Renault, the CMF-B-EV platform must be relatively cheap due to the large scale on which it will be used, which of course makes the 4ever and Renault 5 extra interesting. In any case, the CMF-B-EV platform will house cars that have a 136 hp electric motor and can travel up to 400 kilometers on a charge. Groupe Renault will launch ten new electric cars until 2025. There may also be models from Alpine in between, but in any case also an electric SUV in the segment of the Renault Kadjar.
