iPhone 17 Plus off the track
Apple has announced the new iPhones from 2025! The company presented four aircraft on Tuesday 9 September, but the line-up of the iPhones looks different this year than in previous years. The iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max have been released, but the iPhone 17 Plus is missing. That means that the iPhone Plus is definitely off the track and we will not see any iPhone 17 Plus anymore.
Instead, Apple has released the completely new iPhone Air. This is the thinnest iPhone ever, with a ‘thickness’ of only 5.6 millimeters. With 6.5 inches, the screen is a stroke smaller than the 6.7-inch displays of earlier plus models. Do you want an iPhone with a larger screen? Then you have to pay the main price, because the iPhone 17 Pro Max is then your only option. Yet it is not surprising that Apple definitively does not release iPhone 17 Plus.
Least popular iPhone
Apple released the first iPhone Plus in 2022, that year the iPhone 14 Plus appeared. The iPhone 15 Plus and the iPhone 16 Plus followed in 2023 and 2024. So in 2025 we will not see any iPhone 17 Plus, because Apple said goodbye to the larger regular iPhone. This is not very strange, because the plus models of recent years were generally the least popular iPhones.
For example, the sales figures for the iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 15 Plus and the iPhone 16 Plus were disappointing. There was little demand for the big device, so it is a logical next step for Apple to not release iPhone 17 Plus. This puts an end to the era of the iPhone Plus. With the completely new iPhone Air, Apple tries to appeal to a wider audience. The question is whether that will succeed, certainly because the phone is in stores for € 1,229.
Alternative: iPhone 17 (or iPhone 16 Plus)
Are you planning to buy a new iPhone with a larger screen, but don’t want to pay the main price? Then in 2025 you can also opt for the regular iPhone 17. Apple has increased the screen of the entry model, because the iPhone 17 is now available with a 6.3-inch display. With the iPhone 16 that was a 6.1-inch screen, which gives you a larger display with your iPhone in 2025 as standard. You get the iPhone for € 969.
