Error: Google accidentally rolls out new Google Home app, download now

Google accidentally rolled out an earlier version of its new Home app to some users. The version shows the Matter support, the new automations and hints at the upcoming Google tablet. You can download the apk, but you better not.

New Google Home app

Developers of the Google Home app made a mistake, which resulted in a very unstable version of the redesigned app being rolled out to users in the Preview program. We can say with certainty that it is a bug, because not all announced improvements can be seen in the app, and because of the many software errors.

It is Mishaal Rahman who writes about the accidental update in a series of tweets. On screenshots we see the new features and layout of the app. There is now a tab with favorite smarthome products, Automations, Activities and Settings. Automations should propose an improved version of the Routines in Google Home.

Pixel tablet and Nest Audio as TV speaker

Furthermore, the app also refers to the Pixel tablet, as there are two possible docking stations for the device. To set up the tablet for the first time, you must place it in its dock. It can then serve as a smart display. The Google Home app also shows the option for users to add a device that supports the new Matter standard for smart home.

A feature that targets Google’s Nest Audio speakers has also resurfaced. You will soon be able to connect it to the Chromecast and Google TV, as it turns out.

On Tuesday, Google presented its completely new Home app, but it is certainly not the intention that it will be widely available tomorrow. Users who already got the update on their phone shared this version as an apk on APK Mirror. So in principle it is possible to already use the new app, but that is not recommended. First of all, the novelties are not yet visible to everyone, even if you ‘sideload’ this version. Finally, it contains critical errors.
