The number of company cars that were newly registered in the European Union last year – in contrast to the sale of passenger cars – was 9.6 percent higher last year compared to 2020. This is reported by the European industry association ACEA. In the Netherlands, the number of commercial vehicles sold rose by 12.5 percent.
In total, 1,880,982 new commercial vehicles were registered last year. Vans account for the lion’s share with almost 1.6 million units. Sales of vans rose by 8.5 percent throughout Europe, in the Netherlands the number of new vans increased by 18.4 percent to 4,221 units.
Sales of medium and heavy trucks increased by more than 20 percent and 17 percent respectively. Bus sales increased by just under three percent. With the exception of Spain, all European markets recorded growth. The Netherlands achieved a plus of 12.5 percent with all categories of commercial vehicles compared to 2020.
Incidentally, European commercial vehicle sales did even worse than in 2019. At that time, 2.1 million new commercial vehicles were registered in Europe.
