EV transition leads to job losses at Bosch gearbox division

Bosch is forced to cut around 1,500 jobs at its gearbox division in Germany. Bosch points to the transition to electric driving. The weaker economy and increased costs also play a role.

Bosch is mainly cutting jobs at the factories in Feuerbach and Schwieberdingen in southwestern Germany. This includes jobs in development, administration and sales. According to the company, the transition to electric driving requires high investments and also requires fewer personnel because electric cars have fewer moving parts than cars with a combustion engine.

Bosch also wants to reduce costs, because materials and energy have risen in price. It wants to limit forced dismissals as much as possible. For example, the jobs must be eliminated through early retirement and voluntary departure. The workforce reduction should be completed by the end of 2025, Bosch said.

Earlier this year, jobs were also cut at Bosch here in the Netherlands and that was also related to the EV transition. Bosch Transmission Technology in Tilburg cut 175 jobs because the production of CVTs was moved to Vietnam and more attention is being paid in Tilburg to electric motors, among other things.
