Everything about the benefits of a Sim Only subscription

We are spending more time at home this year and there is a good chance that you will be less likely to drop your smartphone on the sidewalk as a result. Your smartphone is more indoors, where it generally remains safer. This means you do not necessarily have to purchase a new smartphone when your subscription ends. Then choose a Sim Only. These are the benefits.

Sim Only is just your trusted subscription

Some people confuse Sim Only and prepaid. Prepaid means that you have a SIM card for which you buy calling credit. When that is finished, you can no longer call or text. Sim Only is basically the same as a subscription with a device, but without a device. You will therefore receive a bill every month for your telephone calls, text messages and data.

Sim Only is a subscription without BKR registration

The advantage of not purchasing a telephone with your subscription is that your monthly price is much lower, because you do not pay off another device every month. Moreover, it also means that you will not receive a BKR registration for your subscription. Normally you get a BKR registration with an expensive phone that costs more than 250 euros. Your telecom provider will inform Stichting BKR of this, partly to see whether there is a good chance that you can meet the monthly costs. That is not the case with Sim Only: you can take out such a subscription without a BKR registration.

Sim Only is very flexible

Although you often have to take out a Sim Only subscription for at least a year, they do offer a lot of choice and a lot of flexibility. You can choose exactly how many MBs you use, how many calling minutes you need and you can often adjust this gradually when the subscription is already running. With many providers it is also possible to take some unused data or calling minutes with you to the next month, so that you pay less too much. Certainly now that we are more at home and use WiFi more, it is nice, for example, to lower that subscription. After all, you use considerably less data. By the way, there are Sim Only subscriptions that can be canceled monthly. Keep an eye on whether you will be charged closing costs if you switch providers.

Choose another phone yourself

If you opt for a Sim Only subscription, then you are certainly not alone. More than half of the Dutch have such a subscription. Of course it is exciting and new to take out a new subscription with a new device, but if your old device is still working properly and is provided with all the necessary updates, then that is not necessary at all. Then you better choose to go Sim Only for 1 or 2 years and save a lot of costs. If you do want a different phone, for example because a beautiful new smartphone has just been announced or because your phone gives up the ghost, then you have all the choice in the world. You can then purchase and use any simlock-free phone, instead of having a limited choice that a provider offers, at a time when you are just not ready for it.
