Everything about the privacy report on your iPhone

Even if you don’t use an app on your iPhone often, it may always remain active. There are all kinds of processes going on in the background, of which you are not aware. However, since iOS 15.2, you can gain insight into those processes through the privacy report.

Access to data and sensors

Under this heading you can see how often and when an app has access to certain sensors in your iPhone, such as the camera or location sensor and your microphone. This also includes information about how often apps have accessed your photos and contacts.

Network activity of apps

Here you can see how many internet domains an app has accessed and how often this happened. This concerns domains that are accessed directly by the app, but also indirectly, for example via advertisements in the app itself.

Network activity of websites

This menu provides information about which Internet domains have been accessed by websites, via a web browser. Often these are simply the websites you have visited via the Safari or Chrome browser on your phone.

Most Contacted Domains

Here you can see which domains are most frequently accessed by your apps. If multiple apps or websites contact a domain, it could mean that the domain is combining your activities into a profile, according to Apple.

The privacy report provides insight into, among other things, which apps have access to your location data and microphone or camera.

At any time, you can tap on a domain to get more details about which apps and websites have contacted this domain.

Privacy

Keep in mind that Apple’s privacy report attempts to paint a detailed picture of virtually all activity on your iPhone. So if someone else gets their hands on your phone, they will have a complete picture of what you’re up to. You can always disable the privacy report again.
