In the run-up to the Grand Prix of San Marino and the Riviera di Rimini, online auction house Catawiki has a very special auction. In an exclusive collection, which is live until Sunday 8 September, former MotoGP rider and three-time world champion Loris Capirossi is auctioning part of his sports collection.
Among the most coveted items are motocross bikes from Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki that have been modified with 2-stroke engines in modern chassis to obtain modern prototypes, but with maximum performance.
The collection also includes a Vespa equipped with a 2-stroke engine, with the cylinder capacity increased from 50cc to 144cc.
Among the items up for auction, Capirossi has also included some sporting memorabilia from his last MotoGP season (2011, Ducati Pramac Team), including his last helmet, a pair of gloves, a racing suit and a pair of boots.
Cars are also auctioned, another great passion of the motorcycle champion, such as the famous 1950 Mercury that featured in the film ‘Cobra’.
The auction of the Loris Capirossi collection runs until Sunday 8 September 20:00. Capirossi donates all proceeds to the National Cancer Institute.
