Export WhatsApp conversation to mail

Save a WhatsApp conversation on the PC? Export a copy to your email and save the conversation.


Had a nice or important conversation via WhatsApp? Mail it to yourself and save the chat conversation on the PC. This also saves space on the phone because you can delete old conversations.

  • Open the WhatsApp app.
  • Tap the tab chats.
  • Open the conversation you want to export to your mail. Do this by tapping the contact’s name.
  • Tap the person’s name at the top.
  • Tap on Export chat.
  • Tap on Add media to send the exchanged photos, videos and documents. If you don’t want that, tap without media.
  • Tap on E-mail.
  • The chat conversation will be converted to a zip file and will be attached to the email. Enter your own email address behind ‘To’.
  • Send the email as usual.

The email has been sent. On the PC, open the zip file.

  • Open the WhatsApp app.
  • Tap the tab chats.
  • Open the conversation you want to export to your mail. Do this by tapping the contact’s name.
  • Tap the three dots icon at the top right.
  • Tap on More > Export chat.
  • Tap on Attach media if you want to send the exchanged photos, videos and documents. If you don’t want that, tap Do not add.
  • Under ‘Send chat via’, tap E-mail or gmail.
  • The chat conversation has been converted to a .txt document (document with text, but without formatting) and is attached to the e-mail. If you have chosen ‘Attach media’, the exchanged files will be separate in the attachment. Enter your own email address behind ‘To’.
  • Send the email as usual.

The email has been sent. On the PC, open the file and any exchanged files.
