‘Facebook tests WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger merger despite criticism’

Despite the strong criticism of recent months, Facebook continues to explore the possibilities of merging WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger. A leaked test proves the company’s plans.

Facebook is investigating merger between WhatsApp and Messenger

The test was discovered by WABetaInfo, a reliable source when it comes to new WhatsApp features. The account reveals that Facebook is trying out a new feature in Messenger.

The company is said to have added a WhatsApp chat to Facebook Messenger, so that the two chat services are merged in practice.

With that, WhatsApp seems to be heading in the same direction as Instagram. That social network is also closely linked to Facebook and Messenger. This way you can immediately share a photo on Facebook to Instagram and vice versa.

‘Optional choice comes at a striking time’

According to WABetaInfo, the feature will be completely optional. It is therefore not mandatory to have your chat conversations on WhatsApp also appear in Messenger.

Yet Facebook’s test comes at a striking time. In recent months, WhatsApp has been in the news frequently, because the privacy of the app is said to be at stake. Parent company Facebook is experimenting with ways to make WhatsApp profitable, for example by enabling conversations with companies via the chat app.

Because many people use WhatsApp for their private conversations, there was great resistance when it turned out that an attempt was made to make the chat service work better with Facebook. Due to all the criticism, Facebook eventually delayed the new terms of use, but today’s test shows that the tech giant’s plans remain unchanged.
