It is four years ago this year that BMW presented the current generation X5. Time for a facelift. This brand new set of spy photos shows for the first time what the forthcoming Life Cycle Impulse (LCI) for the BMW X5 has to offer.

BMW has been testing a facelifted X7 for a while and then the X5 can’t be left behind. In fact, the X5 is older than the X7 and could use a bit of a touch up session in terms of age. In these spy photos you see the facelifted BMW X5 in not just any version. BMW immediately sends the mighty X5 M out the door in test suit.

BMW X5 M Competition

Last year a packed BMW X5 showed up, although there were less visual changes to it than on this X5 M. Put the current X5 next to it and you immediately see major differences. For example, the X5 has new, significantly flatter headlights. The Munich test car also has a revised grille. The kidneys are more pointed on both sides than the ones in the muzzle of the current X5. BMW will undoubtedly improve the bumper work, although there will of course again be differences between the versions of the standard copies and the models with M sports equipment.

We aim for BMW to also tighten up the interior of the X5. The current X5 has the same interior as the larger X7. The X7 will receive a facelift this year, where the current dashboard will probably be replaced by a copy that closely resembles that of the Concept XM. The X5 may also get that interior. This would bring the X5 and X7 – and the yet-to-be-revealed XM – in line with the iX, which also has two apparently fused displays.

BMW will probably pull the curtain on the modified X5 and X7 later this year. The fierce XM also presents itself this year.
