Facetime will soon block the camera when nude images are registered on the iPhone and iPad. This is how the new function works.
Facetime blocks camera
Apple is working on a new position, which has to make FaceTime a little safer again. With the announcement of iOS 26 it became clear that Apple introduces more ways, which must ensure that children stay safe online. It is therefore easier for parents and guardians to manage Apple accounts from children. That is not all, because due to a new position, Facetime blocks the camera when detecting nude images.
This is a new part of communication safety, with the help of machine learning Nude images registers. Communicative safety was already available at Messages and AirDrop, but now also Facetime is added. Where it was previously thought that this function was only intended for children, it now appears that Facetime blocks the camera with all users as soon as nude images have been detected. That looks like this:
Nude images hidden
Communication safety is extended to Facetime with iOS 26 and is available for all users. Detects Facetime from iOS 26 nude images? In that case, Facetime blocks the camera and a warning appears in the picture. This warning offers two options: continue with the video call or hang up. You don’t just get this message, you have to call in the following position:
- Open ‘settings’ on your iPhone or iPad;
- Go to ‘Apps’;
- Choose ‘FaceTime’;
- Tap ‘warning sensitive material’;
- Finally, turn on the switch behind ‘Warning sensitive material’.
Have you enabled the position? From now on Facetime will block the camera when nude images are registered. Communicative safety is an easy way to protect video calls in Facetime against unwanted images. In addition, you can engage communication safety with AirDrop, contacts, messages and shared albums. Nude images are then blurred in these applications, you must then give permission to view them.

Communication safety for everyone
You don’t have to worry about the privacy of the (nude) images, because Apple uses machine learning For detecting such images. The photos and videos are analyzed locally on the device and are therefore not sent to Apple. Apple does not know what is on the images and nobody gets access to the photos and videos. No images are stored either, before Facetime blocks the camera and shows a warning.
From iOS 26 you can not only engage communication safety on Apple accounts of children, the function is then available for all users. With the fading of photos and videos and blocking the camera at Facetime, Apple makes the digital environment a bit safer again. Do you want to know more about iOS 26?
