The European Commission (EC) has temporarily suspended the investigation into the proposed merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Groupe.
The car manufacturers have not yet provided the requested information, the EC announced on Wednesday. The Brussels study focuses on whether competition in the van market in fourteen EU countries and the United Kingdom will be limited by the merger of car manufacturers.
“This procedure in investigations into intended mergers will not be initiated if the parties involved fail to provide important information that the committee has requested in a timely manner,” said the EC. “When the missing information is provided, the counter starts running again and the deadline for when the committee has to give a definite answer is reset.” That deadline was earlier on November 13.
For Fiat Chrysler, it is not the only bad news today, as raids have also been made due to possible tampering with diesel engines.
