Recently, Jeep brought new hybrid powertrains to the Renegade and Compass, and today sister brand Fiat’s 500X and Tipo are introducing the same electrified engine versions. The Fiat 500X Hybrid and Tipo Hybrid will be available at dealers from mid-April.

Fiat is bringing the hybrid powertrain recently introduced on the Jeep Renegade and Compass to the 500X and Tipo. The powertrains at Jeep are called e-Hybrid, Fiat calls them – just like the mild-hybrid powertrain of the non-electric 500 – simply Hybrid.

Both the 500X Hybrid and Tipo Hybrid will get a 130 hp and 240 Nm strong 1.5 four-cylinder, a new blown petrol engine that works together with a 20 hp and 55 Nm strong electric motor and a 48v system. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission transfers power to the front wheels. The new mild-hybrid Fiat Tipo Hybrid consumes an average of 4.7 l/100 km, the 500X Hybrid notes an average consumption of 5.1 l/100 km.

The Hybrid powertrain displaces the 1.3-litre blown four-cylinder engine from the Fiat 500X’s range. On paper, the Hybrid powertrain is up to 11 percent more efficient than the 1.3’s. It doesn’t stop there. Inquiries with the Dutch importer show that the blown 1.0 four-cylinder engine of the 500X is also being replaced by the Hybrid powertrain. Fiat currently only supplies the Tipo with a 100 hp version of the 1.0 turbo engine. According to the importer, those machines will also be replaced by the new Hybrid powertrain, as it now looks like. This means that the entire Fiat model range will soon be electrified.

The Fiat 500X Hybrid and Tipo Hybrid will be available at dealers from mid-April. Prices will follow in the run-up to the market launch.
