Filming upside down with your iPhone is sometimes really better (here’s why)

Do you take a lot of photos or videos with your iPhone? Then it is sometimes better to film upside down. But why is that anyway?

Filming upside down is sometimes better

The iPhone has a great camera that allows you to take good photos and shoot great videos. To make videos for TikTok, for example, hold the iPhone upright. If you take photos or videos in front of a (television) screen, it is often better to shoot them in width.

However, sometimes it’s smarter to you holding iPhone upside down while filming or taking photos. This is especially useful when you want to capture something on the table for your TikTok video, such as a beautiful pastry or your new Godzilla figure.

When you hold the iPhone upside down, your iPhone’s camera comes much lower. Especially with ‘low’ subjects, such as a dish or a small doll, you can get a much more impressive composition (image structure).

You can also get closer to your subject without having to shoot it from above or tilt your iPhone. That is extra useful with the iPhone 13 Pro and newer. Because from the iPhone 13 Pro, all Pro and Pro Max models have a macro lens, so you can take photos and videos from extra close.

And there is another (small) advantage. When you film upside down, you are less likely to accidentally slide your fingers in front of the camera. You usually hold the iPhone at the top, and your fingers are not near the lens.

The iPhone’s camera is getting better and better. As a rule of thumb, you can even say: the newer your iPhone, the better the camera. Still, there are a number of settings that ensure that you take (much) better photos and videos with your iPhone. Do you want to know which settings these are? Then read the article below!
