Netflix has added an option to the iOS app where you can remove hitchhikers from your account remotely. Are you or do you know a Netflix parasite?
Much-requested feature finally on Netflix
It’s been a long wait, but the streaming service has finally added a simple feature to its iOS app. With this new feature from Netflix you can remove unwanted hitchhikers from your account. This appears to be a precursor to the expected crackdown on password sharing in 2023.
In an update to the Netflix iOS app, this feature was added under the “Account Management” heading. All the loose ends and parasitic piggybacks of your Netflix account are now a thing of the past!
How to remove hitchhikers from your Netflix
You may have a few users with your Netflix account that you hardly know (anymore). This may be because you once took an account with a group of friends to save money. There is also a good chance that your ex-boyfriend still watches movies and series on your account.
Via the ‘Account’ option in the iOS app, you can view these logins to your Netflix account under ‘Manage access and devices’ in the menu. You can also see when, where and from which device you logged in. With this information you can easily distinguish who are hitchhikers and you can remove them from your Netflix. You do this via the ‘Log out’ button under the relevant login. There is also a link to change the password for the account.
Why Netflix is adding this option right now
Netflix’s addition of this feature to remove freeriders comes at a striking time. Netflix is working hard to increase the number of subscribers. For example, as mentioned earlier, it wants to crack down on password sharing and make it easier for you to transfer your viewing history to your own account. In addition, there should also be a cheaper Netflix subscription with advertising soon.
This option also has advantages for you. This way your viewing algorithm remains truly personalized to your viewing history and you don’t have to stare at that one program on your timeline that you never turn on anyway. You are also less likely to run into the message that your ‘Netflix account has expired at many devices are used at the same time’.
